The reason as to why we have visual effects in today’s video industry is because it makes our videos look better, in some cases more realistic, and it even helps us create creatures that would otherwise not exist in our world and add them to our finished project. All of the video effects are done with a green screen/ blue screen and green/blue props and suits.
In the video below there are examples of visual effects used to create Wyverns and scenery for the Game of Thrones series.
In this video the action scene from the Deadpool Movie is mostly a visual effect, it has some action and some destruction in it.
Here is another example from Avengers: Infinity War that has more scenery, models and destruction visual effects.
Industrial Light & Magic
Industrial Light & Magic is an American motion visual effect company that revolucionized the visual effects in the film industry. ILM was founded in May 1975 by George Lucas. ILM was founded as a divison of the Lucasfim company, wich Lucas founded n 1971, because he needed a visual effect company for his Star Wars movie. With the founding of ILM the production on the first Star Wars movie began. Star Wars was released in 1977 and it was a major success due to the fact that people have never seen something like that before. The first completely computer-generated character was the “stained glass man” in Young Sherlock Holmes a movie released in 1985.
The next movie ILM worked on was Jurassic Park in 1993. During the production of this movie they realised that creating this movie with stop motion animation will not work. And with that came the idea of creating 3D rendered dinosaurs using the software and hardware at the time, to create some of the most iconic visual effects in the history of film making.
Following the success of Jurassic Park also helped the employees of ILM to want to push the software forward and expand on the visual effect aspect of film making in order for them to be able to create more detailed and artistic movies while simplifying the process and minimize the time consumption necessary for the creation of the desired visual effects. Thanks to ILM’s revoluionary visual effects, ever expanding software and never ending creativity made the film industry able to create so many iconic movies over the past century with the help of visual effects.
