Health and Safety Risk Assessment

To Quote the Health and Safety Executive

“As part of managing the health and safety of your business you must control the risks in your workplace. To do this you need to think about what might cause harm to people and decide whether you are taking reasonable steps to prevent that harm. This is known as risk assessment and it is something you are required by law to carry out.”

Health and Safety is important during a shoot because there are a lot of possible hazards all around the shoot, there are cables and wires, the tripods, the scoop and lights and any other equipment that may be used during the shoot.

It is important that we take action to reduce the risk of hazards during a shoot in order to protect the Crew, Actors and Models on the shoot along with the equipment used.

“Duty of care is a moral or legal obligation to ensure the safety or well-being of others.”

“Risk Assessment is a systematic process of evaluating the potential risks that may be involved in a projected activity or undertaking.”

Hazards are a danger or a risk that may be involved in a projected activity or undertaking.

Common hazards that should be considered a health and safety hazard

Weather- Rain, snow, hot wather and cold wather could be safety hazards because it affects our everyday lives and may damage our equipment if we require to be outdoors while working.

Tripping – Randomly tripping is possible and people should consider it.

Lifting – objects could be considered a safety hazard depending on the object that is lifted.

Water – could be considered a safety hazard when is around electric devices, equipment, and paperwork.

Problems carrying a camera – could be all of hazards mentioned above.

A good example of a hazard that i experienced was when we did the shoot for the Flying video because we experienced rainy/windy weather which could have damaged the camera if we handled it poorly.
