Meaning of “Play”

“Play” : engage in activity for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical purpose.

It is important to individuals and society because it shapes an individuals personality. People play video games to escape reality and relax.

Unstructured Play : is a category of play (as opposed to a type of play) in which children engage in open-ended play that has no specific learning objective. Unlike structured play, unstructured play is not instructor-led, so parents, teachers, and other adults do not give directions.

Examples :

  • LEGO- Unstructured because kids can build whatever they want with lego pieces.images
  • Play Pretend – Unstructured because kids can pretend to be whatever they want
  • Playing Outside – Unstructured because kids can play whatever they want 150311462-H

Game Play : is the specific way in which players interact with a game, and in particular with video games. Gameplay is the pattern defined through the game rules, connection between player and the game, challenges and overcoming them, plot and player’s connection with it.

Examples:

  • Hollow Knight –  Being hit by an enemy means you lose a lifehollow-knight-damage
  • Final Fantasy XV – When you get hit you lose Hit Points but will gradually heal back but if you get hit too much you loose some of your maximum hit points and will not restore overtime, you have to use a in game healing item called an Elixir.thatsalotofdamage.PNG
  • Tales of Berseria – Characters have “Souls” that are used to perform attack moves called “Artes”, in battle each character starts with 3 Souls, characters can gain souls by stunning enemies or lose souls when they get stunned or perform a Break Soul Arte.maxresdefault.jpg
